This project compiles a new historical data set of international capital flows by banks, corporates, states and local governments, and central governments. The project aims to detect new puzzles and revises classical theories.
TRADEWEALTH: 200 Years of bilateral-product-level trade – A micro view
This project studies the composition of bilateral trade flows over the last 200 years for a nuanced understanding of international trade. For this purpose TRADEWEALTH assembles, digitizes, and creates a comprehensive historical analogue to the UN COMTRADE database. We have a particular focus on understanding which products of trade were detrimental versus beneficial for countries economic development, the composition of trade, the structure of industries, and the dynamics of economic relationships and its connection to geopolitics.
